Editors' Comments

This compact and rugged camcorder from Panasonic is designed for active lifestyles, and meant to be used whenever the need arises. It features a water and shock-resistant build that allows it to be used in damp conditions and to survive a drop of up to four feet. Despite these concessions to durability it also produces a great image with its 10x optical zoom Panasonic lens and Electronic Image Stabilization, which can reduce blur from camera shake. The SDR-S10 records directly to removable SD/SDHC cards, which means that your videos can be viewed nearly immediately on your PC or Mac. A 2GB SD card is included to get you started.

At first I was afraid it wouldn't work with my Mac... (Andre R. Berry - 7/4/08)

But i figured it out! I bought another Panasonic first and my Mac wouldn't see it at all. I was bummed because I actually liked that camera a bit better, but I exchanged it for this one. I chose this model because I was tired of getting cameras that use DV tapes and having them break, chew tapes etc. so I wanted to try the SD card type of machine. I have to say the Sd card is the way to go. It saves each shooting as a seperate file, so I don't have to search for in and out points with iMovie...but I am getting a bit ahead of myself. So this one shows up on my desktop as a hardrive and I am all happy right? i go to a picnic with friends and shoot video, I come back home and find out, Mac doesn't read the MOV file format that Panasonic uses! Man oh man...frustration again! But i searched and searched and found a website that talked about workarounds. For some reason they didn't talk about the workaround that I found but they led me to the path and I stumbled upon how to make it work. Install the Quicktime MPEG-2 Codec from Apple for $19.99 (here:http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/) and get a free program from internet called MPeg Streamclip to convert those movies to DV Streams that iMovie can read. (here:http://www.squared5.com/). I actually works great because Mpeg Streamclip is a lot faster than iMovie's DV Import and since things are already in clips in the camera I don't have to search around with iMovie for the footage I want. So far so great! Hey, if you can pass this info on to anyone to keep them from smashing their Panasonic camera please do so...i searched for days and days for an answer and I found it!
